Long Walks

Saturday, July 3, 2021

Running is one of the things that I miss from before the pandemic. I used to run regularly at the grounds of the nearby hospital, but that hospital has been closed to runners since February 2020, when the Philippines registered its first case of COVID-19. I know it will be a long time until they re-open the hospital and there's no other place where I can safely run, so I resorted to going on long walks instead. Wearing the mandatory face mask and face shield, I walk around the city, along its major roads and through its small back alleys, even venturing outside the city on weekends. I'd open Google Maps and plan my route for the day, thinking of my long walks as a workout, an adventure, and a foray into the foreign.
