A colleague has mistaken me for graduate in humanities or mass communication. She was surprised when she learned that I have an undergraduate degree in economics and psychology and a master’s degree in social development studies. I don’t blame her, because my present line of work really has nothing to do with development studies in the social, historical, economic and political realms. I have completely diverged from the social development path I originally planned to take.
She said that it’s the way I write that made her assume that I studied the whole thing in college. Maybe I should have. If I majored in English or literature or journalism, perhaps I’d have become a better writer—or even a good one--armed with the appropriate technical skills learned in school.
But then we did not learn our love for words, books and writing from school, did we?

hmmm...good question. i can't tell but maybe school was there to help/enhance the tools we already possess.
hmm, yes not at all. i had 'kasyon' in college so i guess i learned english and writing in elementary and high school? .. and yes, learning somewhere else. lol.
must be a new colleague, huh? :)
@kayni: i agree with you. it's in school that we sharpened our skills. and what i learned then i continue to use now. sa araw araw, parang wala akong ginawa kundi magsulat ng magsulat ng magsulat. :)
@artemis: yes, we learned how to read and write in school, but learning to LOVE it is not studied in school.
@jac: si cyd kaya yun. haha.. all the while she thought I was a Mass Comm graduate. Must be all the review and proofreading I'm doing for her department, huh? :)
No, we didn't learn from any school the other "asides that we love". It's been there all along. You are at your best even if you didn't major in masscom. =)
thank, wits. pero dapat talaga nag-masscomm na lang ako. :)
