We Travel to Become Young Fools Again

Monday, December 14, 2009

Back from a wonderful whirlwind trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, I am glad to return to my old routine yet raring to travel once again.

We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again—to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more.
(Pico Iyer, Why We Travel, 2009)

The weather is quite similar to what we have right now in the Philippines. Dry and a lot cooler than usual.

I've posted some pictures on FB, but I'll be posting some here, too, complete with the story behind them. :)

By the way, do you know that FB is not accessible in Saigon?! I thought it was just our hotel that blocked it, but it was inaccessible in the airport (and probably the entire country), too. The government has issued a memo against it.
