Favorite Experiences in Japan

Wednesday, December 6, 2017

We just got back from a two-week trip to Japan, where we explored the Kansai and Chubu regions. In Kansai, we stayed at Osaka, Kyoto, and Koyasan in Wakayama. We also spent several days in Takayama in Gifu Prefecture in the mountainous Chubu region.

Here are my favorite experiences:

Hiking the Choishimichi Pilgrimage Trail to Koyasan in Wakayama

Staying at a shukubo (temple lodging) in Koyasan

Exploring traditional houses at Hida-no-Sato (Hida Folk Village) in Takayama

Grocery shopping at local supermarkets and convenience stores

Seeing autumn foliage for the first time at Osaka Castle Park

Sampling the street food along Dotonbori in Osaka

Watching marine animals at the Kyoto Aquarium

Finding an ancient Mickey Mouse suitcase in a thrift shop in Takayama

I want to see the ancient Mickey Mouse suitcase :). Yummy takoyaki there! We might do Japan next year...we're still planning and I hope it goes through.
