Tempting

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

A few days ago I saw a photo of a couple hiking along one of the mountain pathways through the Tiger Leaping Gorge in Southwestern China. The image has stayed in my mind ever since. That could be us, I thought. The sight of those backpackers walking along a narrow track that hugs the side of a mountain with sheer drops on the other side infused me with such wanderlust that I wanted to pack my bags that very minute and just go. Plane tickets to Beijing are on sale, and I have 26 days of vacation that I can use. It’s very, very tempting.

hey abi. i know you've been to Tiger Leaping Gorge. I saw your photo, nakakainggit. it really looks amazing.

do we need a tour operator if we want to hike along the gorge or can we do it independently? what do you suggest?

we didn't need a tour operator or a guide, you can book it with your guest house, they'll hook you up with other people who are going to TGL and they'll provide transportation up to the registration office or take-off point. you'll be provided maps and instructions. You won't get lost because there will always be other tourist, hikers, backpackers on the trail.
