Kilimanjaro Beckons

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti

It's that song's fault. Whenever I listen to Toto's Africa I can feel the mountain beckoning me.  For more than a century, the snow capped Kilimanjaro has lured countless visitors up its summit, and I dream of reaching it someday, before its snowy peaks and glaciers all but disappear.

I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had.

Some of my friends have been there, a charity thing. Kilimanjaro gets a lot of that kind of business.

I love, love, love that song. My friend's brother climbed the mountain in the summer of 2009 together with some other Maltese people. They did it in aid of charity.
