Misery Memoir

Monday, February 1, 2010

I am told that I have a tendency to alienate my readers. It has something to do with how I write and what I write about. Seeped in melancholia and often self-indulgent, my writings are not something that everyone can enjoy, like, or put up with it. Thus, it’s no wonder that this blog--my misery memoir--has only a handful of regular readers. Why would my narcissistic, otiose rambling be of interest to anybody, anyway?

I like it when people stumble upon my blog, like what they read and even come back for more; but I also like the fact that I remain obscure and with limited readership. It gives me a sense of freedom. I do not feel constrained to write about toothless banalities that would be agreeable to everyone and not offend anybody’s sensibility. I can write about things that I want to write about and not what readers would want to read. Eased of the burden to be likeable and liked, I can turn all introspection against myself and write to my heart’s content.

Stay as you are. When I blog, I only blog about what I want to write at the moment. Blogging doesn't require pleasing everybody. =)

this blog is your home, make it your own. readers come and go but so what. as long as you write with heart.

oo nga no? i like how you look at it, kayni: this blog is my home. i'll think of it that way from now on. :)

Angeli, your writing is superb.
I wish I had such familiarity with and control over the written english as you do. You write exceptionally well and often what you write is inspiring.
I still have to find the direction that I want my own blog to take me but I'm not hurried.
For certain, your first book will be on my most wanted list; guaranteed.

it's nice when you have an uncensored and unrestricted blog... i was actually thinking of creating a new blog where nobody really knows me. :)

your blog never fails to increase my vocabulary. the first word i had to look up was 'rentier'. and today i am too otiose to look up what 'otiose' mean. :)

just like in any TV program, your "viewers" can leave the very moment they feel they aren't pleased with your writing.

you write for yourself and not for them, anyway, so why bother? :)

hi jac. i don't really write for myself or for others. it's just something that i do - something that comes as natural and as essential as walking or breathing.

hello anonymous. rentier means "mas mataas ang upa". hahah.. seriously, though, thank you for following my blog since its early days, i.e. remembering my geeky post on rentier states. :)

you always have kind words for me, unstranger. thank you. i truly appreciate it.

hi mordsith. nakaka-intriga magbasa ng blog na hindi mo kilala ang nagsulat, no? and the more you read his or her posts, the more you get to know the person, though you haven't really met him or her. parang kayo nina wits, eks and other bloggers i follow, pakiramdam ko kilala ko na kayo. :)
