Travel Preparations

Friday, February 6, 2009

Things have been a bit hectic lately, with the preparations for my vacation with D. We decided not to use a travel agency and just do everything by ourselves. By not using an agency, we got to pick out what we really wanted and save money in the process. It’s tiring yet fun. We had to look for the best hotel – within our budget and away from the noisy tourist areas yet accessible through different means of transportation. We had to do read voluminous travel tips and hotel reviews before we decided on where to stay. It’s a good thing there are a lot of websites that offer detailed descriptions about where to eat, where to go, how to go there, what to do, and what to avoid. Having to familiarize myself with all those things is such a tedious process but I enjoy doing it.

Then came the harder part – booking our flight online. For some weird reason, when I tried purchasing our tickets, the airlines declined the transaction. Several times. I tried talking to customer support but both airlines and credit card company were not able to provide me with some valid reason for the unsuccessful transaction. And the same goes with D. He, too, cannot book our flight. With several phone exchanges and my irritation level tested to the fullest, we were able to book our flight. Finally.

Now I’m still drawing up some sort of an itinerary but I guess getting lost in a foreign place is the best way to discover its true beauty.

This is exciting. I'm sure you'll both enjoy this vacation. Yes, getting lost is the best way to discover a new place. Although, I'm still a person who prefers not to get lost, especially in seedy places...lol.

yeah it's a fun way to learn and discover things by yourself...just like we did when we went to Kuala Lumpur, no agency, no exact itinerary...just a map, money and camera then we hit the road...

have fun discovering new places and the adventure it gives ;)

Hi Jac, it will only be for two weeks naman.. and i'll still be reading your blog when i'm there. i'll even remind you, "wala kang post ngayon" like i always do. :)

thanks Agnes. I'll probably visit Yukiko's store (that is, if we can find it). any other suggestions on where to go?

hi Kayni. getting lost is an adventure. :)

you are right, Amelia. map, money and camera - precisely the things we need.

Cool! The address of Bloom is

Bloom
Silom Village 286/1(Room9)
Silom Road Bangrak
Bangkok Thailand

Any cab driver will know "Silom Village".

Could you do me a favor and say hi to Yukiko from me? Could you pass her the link to my post -- I promised her I'd email her my article but I have lost her email address :-(

I'm so happy for you Angeli! Can't wait to hear about your trip. When are you leaving?

hey, ange! i have a few friends who live in Bangkok right now- i don't know if you want the intrusion though. how about giving me an idea of what you want to do and then i can throw some suggestions at you?

Bangkok is a big, sprawling city with many things to see (malulunod ka sa temples at shopping!)- much like manila but, honestly, cleaner and more orderly.

how long will you be staying in thailand? a trip to chiang mai would be worth the extra trip... it's not a beach area (which i think suits you fine) and you'll like the place and the walks i think.

happy and kilig!

heey, finally you are going! I have been planning for a long time to post bangkok photos... a friend of mine is also planning to go to bkk and she asked me if i could email her some photos, i promised her that i will post in my blog so it's easier and faster rather than sending big files by email. anyway, have a great time in BKK, it's a great culture city to see!

am i lost in translation in here? :) to Bangkok with D??!! now, that's cool!

'also try splurging on their exotic streetfoods hehe; you’ll be drowned with spices. bet you’ll be also delighted on how they mismatch condiments on their various cuisines and yet, the outcome tastes awesome!' (this suggestion isn’t first-hand by the way. it was from a friend who frequents Bangkok as a get-away place).:)

enjoy your travel! :)

in ‘lost in translation’ i should mean ‘lost in conversation. hodgepodges. :)

yup, Fren. D (my significant other) and I are going to Bangkok. It would be fun, I'm sure. :)

That sounds exciting. It's interesting to get lost when you're with your significant other. You'll discover/appreciate more things about each other.

It really is exciting, Wits. It's okay to be lost as long as I'm with him. Otherwise, it would be really scary. :)
